Give your home’s exterior a makeover

Many of us would like to move into a bigger, more modern looking house if we won the lottery, unfortunately for many of us our numbers never come up and so we have to let the dream of a brand new house slip away. This isn’t necessarily true as there are many ways in which you can make your current home look as attractive as the freshly built houses you may have seen.

In order to make your home look brand new there are a few different exterior improvements you can apply to make your home more modern and attractive. The first and surprisingly cheap option is getting double glazing. Double glazed uPVC windows are fast becoming the norm for houses up and down the country. Whilst the older white plastic frames may not have suited everyone there are now other colours and even mock-wood effect frames you can get that maintain your house’s character as well as becoming weatherproof and low maintenance.

Double glazing also has the benefit of saving heat loss, which should bring your heating costs down especially during the winter. There are often deals on double glazing such as buying half and getting the other half of the house done for free. Another good use of double glazing is getting a conservatory built.

Conservatories add a room to your house but also make the most of any good weather you may get. Conservatories aren’t just for sitting in as some people use their conservatory as a dining area or a study too.

Another extension that doesn’t need to break the bank is a porch, porches can be small or large depending on how big your home is and what you want to use it for. Some elderly residents have a porch built that also has a small toilet as well, perfect for those who struggle with stairs. Again porches can be designed to complement your house and not look like an afterthought glued on to the side of your house.

There are many builders and glaziers available to carry out this work but before you commit to any work being completed you should check their reputation and any previous work. All too often you will hear about people who have hired workers whose prior workmanship was poor or very slow, if you take some time to research your chosen builder then you should avoid the cowboy builders all together and get the extension to your property finished to a good standard.

There are many conservatories and double glazing providers online who can give you a quick quote on any work you want done to your home.
