What should be a two minute job can turn into a group effort taking half an hour when it comes to changing your duvet cover as people get confused and tangled up. But it doesn’t have to be like this. This article is a step by step guide to replacing your duvet cover, making the job quick and easy.
Step 1
First of all, you need to take the old duvet cover off your bed, ready to be washed. Without these extra sheets you will have more room to change the bed linen and are less likely to get tangled up. You need to make sure you give yourself as much room as possible, especially if you have a king size duvet cover to change.
Step 2
Make sure that you turn your new duvet cover inside out as your next step. This will all become clear when you start to move it over the duvet itself. You should also lay out the blanket so that it is placed on your bed in the right position, with the narrow ends at the top and bottom.
Step 3
Next you need to find the two corners in the duvet cover which go with the two end corners of the blanket. With most duvet covers this is the two corners furthest away from the cover opening. If the duvet cover manages to fall over your body so your head is at the end of it, move back out of the cover and bunch the material over your arms.
Step 4
Once you have hold of the corners it is time to find the corresponding corners of the blanket you want to cover. You should find yourself stood at the foot of the bed if you followed step 2 closely. Depending on how long your arms are you might need to stretch to be able to reach both corners at once, but just make sure they are tightly held together.
Step 5
Now comes the fun bit. Because I am not that tall, I struggle with getting enough height to let the cover fall over the blanket. With both corners firmly in hand, stand on the bed and give yourself a shake, which will make the duvet cover slide down the blanket. This may require that the blanket hangs off the edge of the bed.
Step 6
Now the duvet should be totally covering the blanket and you will be able to fasten it at the bottom. Once everything has been fastened then give the duvet an extra shake and you will have a smooth blanket under which to have a peaceful night’s sleep.
