The Advantages of Choosing Vinyl Shutters

Interior shutters can bring style to any room.  Interior shutters have been a part of interior decor for years.  Traditionally, all interior shutters were made of wood.  There was no other option.  Plastic was too flimsy and metal would be impossible. Today, though, there are diverse types of interior house shutters and a few options instead of wood.

One style of interior shutter that is very popular with homeowners is vinyl house shutters.  There is a continuing dispute over which type of shutter is better.  There are good and bad points regarding both vinyl and wood interior shutters.

Wooden shutters

Wooden house shutters look elegant and are especially old-fashioned. They bring an appearance of richness to any building, whether they are installed inside or on the outside. Many people appreciate the style of real wood, and the fact that wooden shutters are strong and long-lasting also.

Wooden shutters are attractive, when stained or painted.  They need to be either stained or painted and sealed before hanging.  Then, on a regular basis, they need to have the paint or sealant re-applied.  Taking care of wooden shutters uses both cash and sweat.  They are also particularly pricey to buy, especially if you purchase them pre stained.

Wooden shutters are also susceptible to mold and termites. Because they are organic, they will ultimately fall apart.

Vinyl shutters

Vinyl shutters are maintenance free.  They do not need any painting, staining or sealing no matter how long you own them.  They can be found in quite a few different colors and styles and are an attractive, maintenance free option for shutters for a home.

Regrettably, vinyl shutters can get marks in them whenever anything is thrown at them, like hail or a baseball. Although this can happen to wood, vinyl seems to take more of a bruising because it is a softer substance.  Many people prefer to avoid vinyl because it is does not look as respectable as wood.  There are still many consumers who would rather have real wood.

Vinyl shutters are, let’s face it, plastic.  Some of them are made to look like real wood, but are easily percieved the observant eye. While vinyl shutters are less expensive than wood shutters and require no painting or sealing, wood shutters are nonetheless preferred by most buyers.

Your choice of house shutters will be influenced by your budget, tastes, and how much much time you intend to spend maintaining the shutters.  If you would be happier with a shutter that will not require any maintenance and looks attractive on or in your home, you should look at vinyl house shutters

If you do not mind staining and painting your shutters every so often and are willing to part with a bit more money, you might perfer wooden shutters.  Whichever kind you choose, shutters can be a charming addition to any home and come in a variety of styles, shapes and colors.  Whether your preference is vinyl or wood, you are likely to find the house shutters that live up to your expectations and add a touch of glamour to your home.
