Is your home bursting at the seams? You’ve inundated your closets. Do you have your property in a rental storage building?
No doubt, like many growing families, finding a space in your house for everybody to ‘do their own thing’ is not possible. Chances are you are tripping over toys in the make-shift kid’s play area, a k a your living room, constantly moving your craft supplies off the kitchen table so you can serve dinner, or wearing ear plugs while half the neighborhood is sitting in your living room screaming at the basketball game on TV.
You may have thought about adding on an addition to your home, but that is expensive and the remodeling process disrupts the household for weeks or even months. You have to contend with the inconvenience of contractors coming and going all day, with demolition exposing exterior walls to the elements, the noise, the dust, the change orders you did not expect, and a host of other nuisances.
With all of the uncertainty of adding on to your house, you may be thinking of buying a larger house. That is a viable option. In fact it may be a good idea. In most market conditions, it is advisable to make sure that you have your house sold prior to purchasing another one. Many times, there is nothing worse than owning two homes.
Chances are you might not have thought of the easiest solution which is; what about building a shed? If this conjures up a perception of those do-it-yourself light weight aluminum buildings which really can be damaged by high gusts of wind, hail and heavy snow fall, you better reconsider. The new era of the shed is here. Sheds are considered an accessory structure that is the size of a small shed, as sturdy as a home, and so much more.
There is another option. This idea is starting to catch on. Build a shed that solves your problems. We are not talking about one of those cheap piece of junk sheds. Here we are talking about a building that is as strong and secure as your house. Forget about the images commonly associated with sheds. Typical sheds are the runt cousin to what we are talking about here. In fact, think of it as a mini home of sorts.
Of course, having a dedicated studio will create the best environment; you will not have to continually jockey with supplies.
Could you imagine the cost of your exercise shed being similar to a couple years of membership to an upscale fitness center? Have you thought about the convenience of a potting or gardening shed? If you have thought about a potting bench for your garden hobby, why not make a garden shed with room to pot inside so the weather does not dictate when you can work? And who wouldn’t love to have a place for guests to stay other than on their hide-a-bed.
With all of the all of the flexibility offered by sheds, you may find your most difficult decision is the use you intend for it. You may decide to hire a licensed contractor to build your shed. Or, you can build your shed yourself as long as you have well designed shed plans. Either way, you will want information that will you can use as your measuring stick or guide book. This will assure the success of your new shed building project.
