Ways to Protect Yourself from Bed Bugs

When it comes to bed bugs infestation, the bed is the furniture most prone. And as it is where you rest and usually stay for almost half of the day, you are exposed more to bed fleas in there than anywhere else. And so, it is important for you to know how to isolate your bed from the said pests.

 

To isolate the bed from the said pests generally means to get rid of bed bugs. Though that won’t take all of your problems about them, it can help you get a good night sleep and a bite-free morning. Apart from that, it is also a step to saving the rest of your home from the widespread of their infestation.

 

Remember though to complete the things the process needs before starting it. You also have to make sure that what you have is really what is needed for the process. All those tools and materials that are needed can greatly affect the effectiveness of the process to kill bed bugs from your bed so it is vital that you choose all of them correctly.

 

For the process of getting the pests of your bed, the following are the steps.

 

  • Clean the bed. Get the bedding off your bed. That includes the sheets, comforters, blankets, mattress covers and pillow cases. Wash them then at a high temperature of at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Even when drying them, it should be in a high temperature. You can use either a dryer set in the highest setting possible or you can dry it in the sunlight to eliminate bed bugs in all stages.

 

  • Clean the bed’s frame and headboard. Metal or wooden, the bed’s frame can also be infested by the pests and the headboard is often an infested part of the bed. Every corner of them must be thoroughly cleaned. The adjoining parts and the gaps and cracks in them must also be sealed or covered as bed bugs can hide on those.

 

  • Vacuum the mattress. With this step, you will need to use a vacuum with a bag. You can lean the mattress on the wall for an easier vacuuming and so you can get the machine over its edges. Right after, get the bag from the machine and seal it carefully before disposing it. That is to surely contain bed bugs and to prevent them coming back.

 

  • Clean the area surrounding the bed. That is a big help in protecting your bed and the whole room from the comeback of the pests. There are several things that you must do considering that almost any item in a bedroom can be infested by the pest. Among those specific items that you should check and clean to really get rid of bed bugs are the flooring, closets, cabinets and wall hangings.
