What To Look For In Freezers

The average household freezer is a silent slave. It operates year in and year out, requiring nothing other than a constant supply of electricity. Of course, it will need to be replaced in the future.

The following are a few considerations that will allow you to make an informed decision about its purchase..

First, we will talk about the size. And it of course depends on what you need. Usually, most people purchase a freezer that is too large. These people decide for a freezer upon their perceived usage, not real facts. And the story goes something like this: We will need a large freezers because of some special sale that will be at the grocery store. The reality though is that most freezers end up being operated only half full.

Be aware that you have to spend all your food in the six weeks deadline. Foods stored longer than that can become dehydrated no matter how well wrapped. Nutritional value and the food taste will be worst as the moisture is leaving the food. Anything that is stored more then a month and a half is considered wasted .

Just remember how many times did you have to throw some food because crystals started to appear. And the ice that is appearing inside the package is dehydration at work.

You electricity bill will be increased, although appliances like GE freezer are an efficient electric applliances.

More electricity is being spent with an upright freezers. This happend when doors get opened and all the cold air spills outside. And with time, it will run more often. Since the upright freezers are frost free, and most of them are, they consume more power then the older models. So we have to pay for the advantage of not having to defrost it.

Since the cold air is heavier, it will remain inside the freezer if the doors are opened from above, and this is why small chest freezers are great energy savers. Alas, chest freezers are manual and must be cleaned and defrosted 2 times in 12 months.

Most freezers are not somewhere where they can be seen so they do not have to look attractive. Neither do most consumers feel a necessity for them to have many options.
They are regarded as just simple metal boxes that we need to store our content in.

Recently though manufacturers like Frigidaire have been offering a few more options. There are a lot of features you can find in freezers made today; quick freeze, push button control, frost free and digital temperature display.
